Return to Havana

Visiting Cuba is like dipping into five centuries of history: the time that has elapsed since Christopher Columbus first discovered the island. Representing more than the ubiquitous cigar, fine rum, ancient Buicks and the legend of Hemingway, Cuba boasts a colourful array of flora, fauna and avifauna, stunning national parks such as Sierra de Escambray and resplendent and well-preserved Spanish architecture.

Havana’s old city and Trinidad are designated UNESCO World Heritage sites dating from the 16th century and offer some of the best-preserved colonial architecture in the Caribbean. The prosperous port city of Cienfuegos with its striking buildings is reached via citrus groves and sugarcane fields, colonial Sancti Spiritus has a relaxed feel and bustling Santa Clara is inextricably linked to the revolutionary figure Ernesto ‘Ché’ Guevara. A monument exists in his honour.
