In 1855 the explorer David Livingstone stumbled upon the magnificent Victoria Falls which he was to name after the Queen, and described them thus; “scenes so lovely must have been gazed on by angels in their flight”. Indeed, it is the natural beauty of this country and its temperate climate which will attract the prospective visitor where, even today, it is still possible to relax in the comfort of a good hotel and visit the surrounding areas as the mood takes you. One of the great rivers of Africa, the Zambezi rises near the point where the boundaries of Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia come together and travels southwards towards the Okavango Delta before fault lines in the Great Rift Valley cause it to change direction eastwards towards the coast of Mozambique. It appears at its most spectacular at Victoria Falls being twice the size of Niagara – 108 metres high and over 1,700 metres wide! This arrangement includes a guided tour of the falls and a sunset cruise on the mighty Zambezi River. Recent visits to the iconic Victoria Falls have revealed that, whilst quieter on the Zimbabwe side, tourism continues as before and the landmark Victoria Falls Hotel has maintained standards and currently offers exceptional value.
