Travelling on a working cargo-passenger liner sailing from Namibia to the remote mid-Atlantic islands of St Helena and Ascension

 
 

Day 1 Fly overnight from London Gatwick to Windhoek.

Day 2 A short city tour of Windhoek in the morning prior to travelling to a lodge near Sesriem for a two-night stay.

Day 3 A visit to the dunes of Sossusvlei includes a 4x4 vehicle drive. Continue to Sesriem Canyon where the erosion of many centuries has incised a narrow gorge.

Day 4 Travel via Gaub Pass, Kuiseb Canyon and Moon Valley to Swakopmund. Overnight at the Hotel Strand.

Day 5 A short transfer to Walvis Bay and embark on the RMS St Helena.

Days 6 – 8 At sea.

Days 9 &10 Arrive St Helena in the morning and transfer to the Hotel Consulate for a two-night stay. Your time here is free to explore at leisure and optional excursions may be arranged.

Day 11 Sail in the afternoon for Ascension.

Days 12 & 13 At sea.

Day 14 Arrive Ascension in the morning. Transfer to the Obsidian Hotel for the night*.

Day 15 Late evening overnight flight.

Day 16 Arrive RAF Brize Norton in the early morning. Transfer by taxi to either swindon or Oxford railway station.

 

Note

*The stopover on Ascension is dependent on military and government priorities and necessitates stays of varying length as detailed above.
