From The Cape to Victoria Falls

A private train from Cape Town to Victoria Falls with stays at classic hotels

 
 

Day 1 Fly overnight from London Heathrow to Cape Town.

Day 2 Transfer to the Mount Nelson Hotel for a four-night stay.

Day 3
An excursion to Table Mountain. Later visit the Company Gardens, Museum, Castle of Good Hope, Greenmarket Square and picturesque Bo-Kaap. Tour ends at Victoria & Alfred Waterfront. Note: The Table Mountain visit is weather permitting and excludes cableway ticket.

Day 4 A tour of the Cape Peninsula: Camps Bay, Llandudno and Hout Bay and then via Chapman’s Peak to Cape Point, the Good Hope Nature Reserve, Simons Town, the penguin colony in Boulders Bay and Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens.

Day 5 At leisure.

Day 6 Morning departure on the ‘Pride of Africa’ for the 19th-century health resort of Matjiesfontein. Travel through the night.

Day 7
Reach Kimberley and visit the ‘Big Hole’, Kimberley Museum and a street preserved from the days of the diamond rush.

Day 8 Arrive in Pretoria. Afternoon city tour. Overnight at the 4-star Hotel Court Classique.

Day 9 Embark on the ‘Pride of Africa’ mid-morning from Rovos Rail’s private station in Capital Park. The rail routing to Victoria Falls is dependent on local conditions at the time and the border formalities could be at Musina after traversing the Soutpansberg Mountains, or at Mafikeng after crossing the Magaliesberg Range.

Days 10 & 11 Continue through Zimbabwe in a north-westerly direction passing through Thompson’s Junction. Alternatively, travel through Botswana via Plumtree for border formalities with Zimbabwe. Both routes continue on towards Hwange Game Reserve and arrive at Victoria Falls late afternoon.

Day 12 At leisure to enjoy the majesty of Victoria Falls or join an optional excursion.

Day 13 Fly to Johannesburg for the overnight flight to London.

Day 14 Arrive Heathrow in the morning.
