Itinerary 1 (2011)
Day 1Fly overnight from London Heathrow via Johannesburg to Windhoek.
Day 2 On arrival, an orientation tour of Windhoek includes Christuskirche, Alte Feste and the Tintenpalast. Overnight at the 3-star Protea Hotel Furstenhof in Windhoek. In the evening, enjoy dinner and wine-tasting at the Castle Hotel Heinitzburg.
Day 3 Drive via Rehoboth, home of the Baster community to Sesriem (5 hrs) for two nights at the 4-star Namib Desert Lodge. Optional sundowner drive to see the petrified dunes - bookable locally.
Day 4 A visit to the dunes of Sossusvlei includes a 4x4 vehicle drive. Continue to Sesriem Canyon.
Day 5 Travel via the Namib desert, Gaub Pass, Kuiseb Canyon and Moon Valley to Walvis Bay (6 hrs). Two nights at the 4-star Protea Hotel Pelican Bay in Walvis Bay.
Day 6 Optional morning cruise on Walvis Bay (prebooking essential) to view the marine and bird life including dolphins and seals. Afternoon visit to the quaint seaside town of Swakopmund.
Day 7 Travel via Omaruru and ‘Kristal Kellerei’ a unique desert vineyard to the 3-star Etosha Safari Camp south of Etosha National Park (7 hrs) for an overnight stay.
Day 8 Enter Etosha National Park. Included full-day game drive by tour vehicle. Alternative of optional afternoon and evening open-vehicle game drives. Overnight at one of the rest camps inside the park.
Day 9 Travel south via Lake Otjikoto and Tsumeb to Otjiwarongo (5 hrs) for two nights at the 4-star Okonjima Main Camp.
Day 10 Day at leisure. Optional activities (see introduction).
Day 11 Visit the Kavango woodcarvers open market in Okahandja. Continue to Windhoek (3 hrs) for the overnight flight via Johannesburg to London Heathrow.
Day 12 Arrive London.
Extension - Cape Town
Stay at the central 3-star Inn on the Square with a tour of Cape Town including Table Mountain and the Castle of the Good Hope and a tour of the Cape Peninsula including Hout Bay, Cape Point and the Good Hope Nature Reserve.
Note: If taking the extension, the flights will be with British Airways from London via Johannesburg to Windhoek, Windhoek to Cape Town and direct from Cape Town to London.
