‘Cape Namibia’

A new itinerary exploring the flora, fauna and dramatic landscapes of Namibia and the Cape

20 nights from £3697 - New for 2010

The distance from Cape Town to Fish River Canyon, one of Namibia’s iconic sights, is actually equivalent to that from the Canyon to Namibia’s capital, Windhoek, so it seems logical to travel overland from Cape Town to Windhoek on the so-called ‘Cape Namibia’ route, including a variety of sights in the Western and Northern Cape provinces. From Cape Town with its iconic Table Mountain and the Cape of Good Hope, travel to the winelands and rock art of the Western Cape and into the floral scenery of Namaqualand, famous for its riotous beauty in the flower season (Jul-Sep). This leads into Namibia with the second-biggest canyon on earth, Fish River Canyon, the dramatic dunes of Sossusvlei and one of the finest game reserves in Southern Africa, Etosha National Park. Stay at one of the rest camps inside the park which are unique in having floodlit waterholes and optional night game drives. Okonjima is the base for the AfriCat Foundation, a non-profit organisation committed to conservation of Namibia’s large carnivores, especially cheetahs and leopards. It featured on Joanna Lumley’s recent ‘Catwoman’ on ITV. Optional activities include ‘radio-tracking’ leopards and the ‘Cheetah Project’.
