Walking the Atlas

A walking holiday in Marrakech staying at one of the fine Angsana riads in the medina and in a spectacular location in the High Atlas, at Dar Imlil or Kasbah du Toubkal

 

 
 

Day 1 Fly from London Gatwick to Marrakech and transfer to an Angsana riad for a two-night stay.

Day 2 Walking tour of Marrakech: the Koutoubia Minaret, the Kasbah (fortress), the Saadian Tombs and the Bahia Palace. In the afternoon visit the colourful souks of Marrakech and stroll through the famous Djemma el-Fna Square, the ancient meeting point of the tradesmen in northwest Africa, ending with a drink in the square.

Day 3 Depart for Imlil, situated some 5,700 feet above sea level, for three nights at Dar Imlil or Kasbah du Toubkal including dinner. Afternoon free.

Day 4 Trek up to the cool waters by the Sanctuary of Sidi Chahmarouch on the route towards Mount Toubkal. Follow the Reraya River, passing the village of Aremdt and crossing to the other side of the Ait Mizane valley (4 hours walking).

Day 5 Trek up to the Tizi’n’Tamatert col, then descend into the stunning Imane valley. Walk to the villages of Tinhourine and Ageursiwal, following river courses past terraces and through walnut groves (7 hours walking).

Day 6 Return to Marrakech for a two-night stay at an Angsana riad. Afternoon at leisure.

Day 8 Transfer to the airport for the return flight to Gatwick.
