Opening up the Atlas
An exploration by 4x4 of the villages and valleys of the Atlas Mountains and the Saharan dunes with stays in Desert tents and Kasbahs
Day 1 Fly from London Gatwick to Marrakech and transfer to the
Moroccan 4-star* Hotel Farah Golden Tulip.
Day 2 Full-day tour of Marrakech and lunch. Visit the Koutoubia Minaret, the Majorelle Gardens, the Bahia Palace, and the Dar Si Said Palace museum of jewellery, costume, chests and doors.
Day 3 Over the imperious Atlas Mountains to arrive in Ouarzazate for a one-night stay at the Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou. Visit the Telouet and Ait Ben Haddou kasbahs en route (90 kilometres of 210 off-road).
Day 4 Follow the course of the Draa River to the fringes of the Sahara for dinner and an overnight under canvas amongst the dunes of Tinfou (90 kilometres of 290 off-road).
Day 5 Traverse Tadrart Mountain en route to Tinerhir for overnight at the Kasbah Tomboctou. Visit a number of fortifi ed villages and Tinerhir’s beautiful oasis (140 kilometres of 290 off-road).
Day 6 Drive the Dadès Valley to Ouarzazate for an overnight stay at the Kasbah Ait Ben Moro or Kasbah Le Tourmalines. Spend time exploring the spectacular multi-coloured Todra Gorges en route (25 kilometres of 235 off-road).
Day 7 Return to Marrakech via the Tizi n’Tichka pass, the highest vehicular pass in Morocco and this afternoon explore the souks and the herb and spice market and enjoy a drink overlooking Djemma el-Fna Square. Overnight at the
Moroccan 4-star* Hotel Farah Golden Tulip.
Day 8 Transfer to the airport for the return flight.
