Day 1 Fly to Marrakech. Two nights at the Moroccan 5-star
Royal Mirage Deluxe Hotel or Le Meridien N’Fis.
Day 2 A full-day tour of Marrakech includes lunch, the
Koutoubia Minaret, Majorelle Gardens, Bahia Palace and
Dar Si Said Palace Museum of jewellery, costume, chests
and doors.
Day 3 Travel to Casablanca (3 hrs) to visit the Hassan
II Mosque. Continue to the coast for overnight at the Moroccan 5-star Hotel Amphitrite near Rabat.
Day 4 A tour of Rabat includes the Mohammed V Mausoleum, Hassan Tower, the ruins of the Roman town of
Sala Colonia and the Oudaya Kasbah. Continue to Tangier
(3 hrs) for overnight at the Moroccan 5-star Hotel Andalucia.
Day 5 Visit the port of Tangier. Drive into the Rif Mountains
to the Spanish colonial capital of Tetouan. Lunch in the
‘white town’ of Chefchaouen. Continue to Fez (3 hrs) for
three nights at the Moroccan 5-star Palais Medina Fes
& Spa.
Day 6 Drive around the city ramparts and visit the Dar el Batha Museum of local crafts. Lunch in the medina, explore the labyrinthine medina and souks, including Attarine Medersa and a traditional carpet-maker.
Day 7 Visit the Roman city of Volubilis and the hill town of Moulay Idriss. Lunch in Meknes, then a tour of its ramparts, imperial granaries and stables.
Day 8 Traverse the Atlas Mountains to Erfoud (5 hrs) for
overnight at the Moroccan 4-star Hotel Xaluca.
Day 9 Early morning optional excursion to the Merzouga Dunes on the fringes of the Sahara. Travel to Tinerhir (3 hrs) for lunch and to visit the dramatic Todra Gorges. Overnight at the Moroccan 4-star Xaluca in Boumalen Dades.
Day 10 Continue along the spectacular ‘Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs’ to the former French Foreign Legion outpost of Ouarzazate. Visit the much photographed kasbahs of Tifoultoute, Taourirt and Ait Ben Haddou. Continue to the walled town of Taroudant (4 hrs) for overnight at the historic Moroccan 4-star Hotel Palais Salam.
Day 11 Visit Taroudant, then travel to Essaouira (3 hrs) for two nights at the Moroccan 5-star Hotel Atlas Essaouira.
Day 12 A morning tour of this former Portuguese port, visiting the fortifications, medina and handicrafts market. Afternoon free.
Day 13 Return to Marrakech (3 hrs) for two nights.
Day 14 Explore the fascinating and colourful souks of the
old medina, visiting the Medersa Ben Youssef, a 14thcentury
religious teaching establishment and Palais Badia.
Day 15 Transfer to the airport for the return flight.
Extension - Marrakech
Stay on at Royal Mirage Deluxe or Hotel Le Meridien N’Fis for four nights of relaxation or independent exploration. Includes breakfast and transfers. (Apr-Oct flights with BA from Gatwick).
