SS Karim - King Fuad's Nile Steamer

An exclusive VJV cruise on a historic Nile paddle steamer

SS Karim

Built in Britain in 1917 for the then Sultan of Egypt, Fuad, and titled King after 1922, the SS Karim was inherited by his son Farouk, then following the revolution of 1952, became government property. Now owned privately and still powered by its original steam engine and stern quarter wheel paddles, SS Karim has been extensively renovated and combines the comforts of the modern era with the images and elegance of a bygone age. Restaurant (main deck), lounge bar (upper deck), lower and upper sun terraces with shaded seating areas, sun loungers and a jacuzzi pool. 15 air-conditioned twin and double cabins with private facilities (shower), mini-bar, safe, hairdryer and satellite TV.

Whilst the sound and vibration of the original engines are, of course, part of the experience, we have identified a few of the smaller cabins (all double) where this is more noticeable and are offering these at a reduced (standard) tariff. ‘Upgraded’ cabins are quieter and either upper deck or larger main deck cabins (twin or double). Balcony cabins are at the front of the ship (doubles, main deck).
